Applying for a DBS Check

The Methodist Church now uses DDC for applications for a DBS check.

The application needs to be requested by group leaders as part of the Methodist Safer Recruiting procedure to the person/s responsible in the church or circuit for raising DBS checks.

In North Wiltshire, there are some Church Safeguarding Officers who can trigger a DBS check, or contact the doubt, please contact the Circuit Administrator who can raise it for you.

The following information to start the application process is required:

1)  Applicants Title, Forename & Surname

2)  Applicants Date of Birth

3)  Applicants Email Address.  If the applicant does not have email, it can be done with the applicant, preferably directly with a designated verifier.

4)  The role for which the applicant is applying

The person raising the DBS application will need to choose which 'role' to select from the drop down menu.  Please refer to the DBS category specification to select the correct one. Please take care that you select volunteer as there are some paid positions in the list.

DBS guidelines

Once the application has been raised, an email will be sent to the applicant with login details.  They will need to specify which documents they are presenting for verifying and will need these to hand when making their application.  Please refer to the whatyouneed form for further details.

The circuit will automatically sign volunteers for the update service unless they request otherwise.  We can use this update service system unless the volunteer role changes that requires an upgraded DBS check.  All CSO's are to ensure that volunteers are aware of this when discussing starting in a voluntary role.
